Main Library online catalogue

The Main Library is open to adults and teenagers over 15.

• The Main Library is the largest library among all public libraries in Rzeszow. It caters to residents of Rzeszow, Pokarpackie Province and other regions. 
• It caters to different age groups and offers rich and varied collections, that are available to anyone over 15.
• The library is fully computerized, offering online book ordering, reservation and renewal. It allows for online library account administration. All library procedures are carried out through an integrated computer system.
• The library offers computer stations with Internet access.
• The Main Library staff ensure a high level of library information workshop by preparing many types of publications, like: bibliographic lists, new item catalogues and other information aid materials. The staff also organizes thematic exhibitions.

How to join the library?:

When joining the Main Library you must :

1. Show your identity card or valid school ID in case of children and under age youth. Foreigners show passport, and permanent or temporary stay card.
2. Read the library regulations.
3. Fill out the sign up form and pledge with signature to follow the Regulations. Pledges of under age youth are to be signed by parents or legal guardians after an identity check.
4. Accept a free, plastic Reader Card, in case of primary school children attending grade III or lower, acceptance of the Card has to be confirmed by a parent or legal guardian.

Fulfilment of the above conditions is necessary to be able to use the library.

Collections:

• scientific and popular science books in all fields of knowledge,
• literature, required reading books and their studies,
• foreign fiction and books for language learning,
• cartographic collections (maps, plans),
• regional books,
• tourist guides,
• information publications and albums,
• standards publications relating to librarianship, book selling, and information science,
• audio books,
• feature films and documentaries, theatrical performances.
   

Total collections of the Main Library contain 70.124 units, including : 42.393 scientific books and 26.423 literature books for adults, 147 literature items for teenagers, 411 maps and plans, 85 standards, 421 films, 163 audiobooks, 81 electronic documents [as of 1.01.2012].
 
The library systematically receives new publications. Some of the collected titles have several or even several dozen available copies  (this applies mainly to required reading books, academic textbooks and best sellers).
 

Services:

• offering collections on-site and collections lending. The library operates a computerized availability system /does not apply to required reading books and new items/
• library information, factual, bibliographic. The library offers an extensive and very helpful information workshop. Consisting of :

Computer database  that contains information on all library collections and allows for searching of library materials with multiple criteria: title, last and first name, subject  keyword, name of event, name of institution, UKD symbol, set title, publisher, cartography, foreign language literature, regional publications, standards, cycle, reference library, deposit, new items,  Nobel, Nike, electronic document, films, audiobooks, catalogue number.
      

Since 2002 The Main Library catalogue is available on the Internet

Traditional catalogues : alphabetical, new items (of the month - alphabetical and annual systematic), regional (systematic), reference library (systematic), foreign language books, cartography, standards and electronic documents (separate for films and audiobooks).

Other activities:

• trips and lessons at the library for secondary and high schools students,
• publishing of: „New items catalogue”, thematic bibliographical lists, „Information Bulletin of the Main Library of WiMBP in Rzeszow”,
• computer courses for library users.

Computerization of the Main Library:

On January 3 2000 the Main Library began automatic registration of book loans and returns, based on "Library support computer system Sokrates-SOWA". The library utilizes bar code readers and plastic library identification cards. These cards open users accounts, and allow for quick registration of loans, returns and renewals. 

The basic elements of the system [currently SOWA-2] consist of: computer data base that includes all library collections and bar code labels affixed to the books, a different data base containing information on library users and plastic Library Cards with bar codes.

The 13 user stations used for browsing of the computer catalogue make the Library significantly easier to use, and information contained in the computer catalogue about  availability of  books being searched  for is also very beneficial to users.

In May 2005 the order slip system has been abandoned, allowing the readers automatic book selection through the "Sowa-Opac" module.

In January 2006 "Sowa-www" module was launched, allowing the users for online ordering and reservation of books as well as library account administration through any computer (e.g. home computer).

3 computer stations offer free Internet access to readers of the Main Library. The  Main Library also offers access to resources of  Digital Library of Podkarpacie.
